Processing
Cleanseal-FDA® is suitable for most types of glass, ceramics, glazed tiles, enamel, metals as steel, copper, zinc, lead and brass, impregnated, varnished or painted wood. And to plastics such as uPVC, epoxies, polyester and many other materials. Since surfaces vary widely, it is best to carry out compatibility and adhesion tests prior to final use.
Joint design and dimensions
Use polyethylene or polyurethane backer rods. The minimum joint width is 6mm so as to allow proper application and tooling of the sealant. The sealant bead should be no deeper than 15mm. The ideal ratio of joint width to depth is: Widths up to12mm give a depth of 6mm. Wider joints/3 + 6mm. E.g.: (WxD / mm’s) 6×6, 8×6, 10×6, 12×10, 15×11, 20×12, 25×15, 30×15. In any case, the minimum joint width must be four times the expected movement.
Pretreatment of surfaces
All substrates must be free from dust, oil, grease, and loose particles. Non absorbing substrates such as glass, tiles and plastics should be cleaned with a soaked clean cloth with Bloem Cleaner “Plastics” or Cleaner “Glass+Metall”. Don’t touch cleaned surfaces any more prior to sealing. Please consult our relevant technical data sheets and test cleaners and/or primers for compatibility prior to application.
